Summit Lets Random Internet Person Name Its Beer for the 2019 Great Minnesota Get-Together, Yet Again

It’s Time! Crack Open Your Favorite Summit Beer and Let Those Creative Juices Flow.

Greetings, Thirsty People. Remember last summer when we let all you beer drinkers take a swing at naming our beer for the Minnesota State Fair? In a single week, you submitted more than 420 entries in our “Craft the Name 2.0” contest, nearly breaking our e-mail server for good. Fortunately, Summit Helles Ya, You Betcha! cruised to victory before our IT guy lost his mind.

Aaron McPherson of Vermillion, MN, named and helped brew Summit Helles Ya, You Betcha! in July 2018. Here he is on the right with our Head Brewer Damian McConn.

Because we so enjoyed letting you name our beer, we’ve decided to invite you all to do it again this year. That’s right: Summit is once again looking for a random Internet person to name our exclusive and limited beer for the 2019 MN State Fair. Craft the Name is on.

We’re asking all you loyal Summit beer drinkers to punch in and give a banger of a name to Summit’s beer for the 2019 Minnesota State Fair. So, if you’re still steamed that your brilliant submission didn’t win last year (or the year before), now’s your chance to make things right.

CRAFT THE NAME CONTEST
To participate, please send your full name, phone number, address, and your proposed name for the beer* to [email protected] between May 31 and June 6.

*Please make sure your beer name hasn’t been used by another brewery. You can do this by searching for the name at Ratebeer.com, BeerAdvocate.com or Untappd.

From the submissions, we’ll vet and then choose our favorite name. Announcement of the beer name has to wait until the end of July (after the MN State Fair does their thing), but we’ll secretly let the winner know in June. Mums the word to the public, though. Oooooo, super secret stuff.

THE PRIZE
If you win our Craft the Name contest, you’ll get to be part of brewing our next beer for the Fair with Head Brewer Damian McConn, right here at Summit Brewing in St. Paul, MN (Date TBD). And if you don’t break anything, you’ll be invited back a few weeks later to be the first person to taste the new beer. Before the public. Which is a pretty big deal.

DETAILS ABOUT THE BEER
Summit’s beer for the 2019 MN State Fair will have a clean bitterness that enhances its refreshing finish and thirst quenching nature, one meant for hot, sweaty days at the Great Minnesota Get-Together — and we think an American-Style India Pale Ale will fit the bill perfectly this year. Our MN State Fair exclusive American-Style IPA will have all the aroma and flavor the craft beer lover expects from a standard IPA, but it will only have 99 calories, 3.5g carbs and a low ABV of 4.0%. Our recipe, though not final, will include a new experimental hop and Cascade hops from Mighty Axe Hops in Foley, MN along with a complex blend of British, American and German malts. The end result for this Lo-Cal/Lo-Carb/Lo-ABV IPA ought to showcase a golden yellow color with intense aromas of pineapple, grapefruit and apricot, leading to flavors of English biscuits, breadcrust and sweet citrus.

“The Fair is ultimately the Great Minnesota Get-Together,” says McConn, “so we’ll focus on providing a refreshing, low-ABV, low-calorie and low-carb beer people can enjoy while out at the fair with their friends and family, eating obscene amounts of delicious fried foods.” After all, the beer you drink at the Fair shouldn’t keep you from filling up on deep-fried pickles, corn dogs and cheese curds.

DRINK THE BEER AT THE MINNESOTA STATE FAIR BEGINNING AUGUST 22
Summit Brewing Co.’s special beer will be served exclusively at the Summit on a Stick Booth at Shanghaied Henri’s, located in the Minnesota State Fair’s International Bazaar. We can’t wait to see you there!
