The Soul of Summit Pilsener is Family Barley

As farmers work in their fields this summer, Summit Brewing Company cultivates a special relationship to bring local family grown barley to their beer. The two-row Moravian 37 barley that is the “soul” of Summit Pilsener is grown on a North Dakota farm owned by Summit Founder Mark Stutrud’s cousins Jim and Todd Stutrud.

“This family homestead, in its fourth generation, produces some of the best barley in the country,” said Stutrud. “We’re proud that they are committed to providing Moravian 37 barley specifically for our Pilsener.”

Moravian 37 is an exclusive two-row barley that lends itself to the overall quality and craftsmanship of the Pilsener. The beer has a spicy floral aroma crisp, refreshing malt backbone and lightly spiced hops.

Summit’s latest YouTube video features Stutrud at his cousins’ farm explaining the growth place of Moravian 37 and more: http://youtu.be/tr8-IBxwbyM

As a special tribute to the family-inspired recipe, local poster artist DWITT is also creating limited edition screen-printed posters featuring Summit’s Pilsener available in the Summit gift shop at the end of June. For more information on DWITT, visit http://www.dwitt.com.
