Summit Brewing Company’s newest beer is a tribute to many things, but among them – brewer Sam Doniach’s upcoming nuptials. Created by Doniach, Honeymoon Saison features real Minnesota honey and is the seventh beer to be released in Summit’s limited-time-only Unchained Series.
“The honeymoon is historically the occasion where people would drink ‘mead’ or fermented honey,” said Mark Stutrud, Founder of Summit Brewing Company. “Of course, Summit isn’t in the mead-making business, but adding a bit of honey is a good way for Sam and his wife to celebrate tying the knot.”
Doniach’s ale also honors the Saison ales that were originally brewed in French and Belgian farmhouses to refresh workers during long hours in hot fields throughout harvest season. The beer has a deep golden color and a refreshing citrus and floral character with hints of apple, pear, and spicy, peppery notes. It’s brewed with a touch of Minnesota honey as a kettle addition and is unfiltered with a smooth, clean finish.
Honeymoon Saison will be available in draught the week of July 11 and in bottles the week of July 25. Special kick-off events for Honeymoon Saison featuring brewer Sam Doniach are happening all this month.
