A Belgian-Style Dark Ale, Rich Mahogany In Color
While developing Summit Unchained 26: Westie 7th, its name a nod to our St. Paul brewery’s neighborhood, Brewer Nick Hempfer discovered the delicious world of Belgian Candi Syrups — an ingredient he used to boost this beer’s booze content and give it rich notes of dark fruit, dark caramel, and rum, rum, rummy-rummy rum. Specialty malts support these flavors, and subtle noble-style hops lie back to let the candi syrup shine. Finished with a Trappist-Style Ale yeast, you can expect traces of fig and raisin to round out the beer.
Launched in 2009, the rotating Unchained Series allows Summit brewers to explore their craft and pretty much brew whatever the heck they want without paying mind to budgets or outside influences. Find Summit Unchained 26: Westie 7th on draft and in 6-packs of 12-oz. cans.
