Backyard Bash 30th Anniversary Party

2016 Backyard Bash

Summit is celebrating 30 years of brewing craft beer and making great friends with our Backyard Bash 30th Anniversary Party at the brewery and backyard in Saint Paul from 12-8pm on Saturday, September 10, 2016. The party includes a full day of live music headlined by Bob Mould, some of the best food trucks in the Twin Cities, and – of course – a whole lot of Summit beer including year-round favorites, special limited edition beers and a huge cask area. Follow this link to get tickets to this year’s milestone party and Backyard Bash!

This year’s Bash will be hosted by the one and only Brian “BT” Turner and feature live performances by Bob Mould (6pm), Bully (4:40pm), deM atlaS (3:35pm), Bad Bad Hats (2:30pm), Apollo Cobra (1:25pm), Nooky Jones (12:20pm) and Hotpants DJs (Noon and in-between all live sets). See video clips below for a taste of what to expect from the performers.

Important Traffic Notice: MNDOT will have a large portion of I-35E shut down this weekend from 9pm 9/9/16 until the morning of Monday 9/12/16. The interstate will be closed to north- and southbound traffic from I-94 in downtown Saint Paul to Shepard Road just north of the Mississippi River. Unfortunately this stretch of I-35E involves some of the closest exits for Summit Brewing Company. From the south you will need to exit Shepard Road and access the brewery area or our shuttle partners (see below) from there. From the north, consider taking Lexington Pkwy or 7th Street from the West 7th neighborhood area and/or downtown Saint Paul. Sorry for the inconvenience. For more information on the MNDOT I-35E Bridges Project, see this link.

Summit’s draught beer list includes: Extra Pale Ale, Pilsener, Sága IPA, Oktoberfest, Hopvale Organic Ale, 30th Anniversary West London-Style Ale and a special beer surprise to be announced the week before the bash. Our cask area will highlight firkins of Sága IPA, Oatmeal Stout and West London Style Ale with various cask hops and cask additions.

Food trucks serving all day at the Bash include the following with a sampling of their menu:
The Anchor Fish & Chips: Fish & Chips, Meat Pastie, Veggie Pastie, Battered Sausage, Poitin Poutine
Bennett’s Chop & Railhouse: Pulled Pork Sandwich with Summit EPA BBQ Sauce, Juicy Lucy, Roasted Corn
Black Forest Inn: Bratwurst, Chicken Sausage, All-Beef Hot Dogs, Potato Salad, Lentil Spatzle
Pizza Lucé: TC Bear, The Athena, Cheese Pizza, Pepperoni Pizza
Signature on Wheels: Flatbread Pizzas, Portabella with Gruyere and Basil Aioli, Scallops on Sweet Potato Hash.

Plus treats from Frio Frio and PoppedCorn.

Backyard Bash Crowd

What’s the vibe of the live music throughout the day? Let’s take a look (and listen)!

Things will get kicked off as the gates open at noon with our friends (including Summit coworker Ben Mena) Hotpants DJs crew spinning some super deep soul and R&B vinyl. Hotpants will also DJ between all live sets.

The first band to take the stage is Nooky Jones. These guys are a super-fun brassy soul outfit that brings the jazz and funk! Check out the group performing their “Sweet Wine” live in Radio K studios:

You can certainly expect a dance party to pop off as soon as our second band, the electro-groove trio Apollo Cobra hits the stage! The Minneapolis-based indie rock band Bad Bad Hats follows, and smack dab in the middle of the line-up is deM atlaS, a hip-hop artist who appears on the Minneapolis-based Rhymesayers Entertainment label. While his live performances are upbeat and a lot of fun, deM atlaS has a definite rock/grunge influence in his rap game that creates deep, moody tracks as well.

As we edge ever closer to the evening’s finale, Bully explodes onto the stage! Bully is a Nashville band with Minnesota roots. The four-piece indie grunge punk band is led by singer/guitarist Alicia Bognanno who used to live in Rosemount, MN. Their gritty hard rockin’ music is going to get the crowd whipped into a frenzy as we build up to the night’s headliner Bob Mould.

And our headliner… what can we say about Bob Mould? Summit president and founder Mark Stutrud has been hoping to line up Bob to close a Backyard Bash for a few years now and schedules just never seemed to work out. Thankfully, Bob and Mark are able to make it happen for the brewery’s epic 30th anniversary milestone! Bob Mould has had an prolific musical career that includes the bands Hüsker Dü and Sugar and his current solo and Bob Mould Band work. It will be a magical moment for the Mark and the brewery to have Bob Mould throwing down in the backyard.

“Voices in My Head”

Thanks to this line-up of live music, our food truck partners and our brewers’ dedication to bringing out some top-notch brews – this year’s 30th Anniversary Party & Backyard Bash is going to be one for the books. Get your ticket now and join us for the big Bash! For more information and tickets, see this link.
