Summit Brewing is pleased to be partnering with Eureka Recycling again, Minnesota’s only nonprofit with a mission to demonstrate waste is preventable. Together we are working towards zero waste at our upcoming Backyard Bash. We are aiming to reduce discarded material and to ensure that disposable items generated at the event will be compostable or recyclable. Volunteers will make it easy for event-goers to recycle and compost. We’re looking forward to seeing how close we can come to zero while having a great time!

Parking is very limited, so we’re encouraging everyone to bike, bus, shuttle, carpool, walk, or take a cab. Please see our FAQ section below for more info on these options.

Special thanks go out to the Saint Paul Jaycees and our Summiteers for being event volunteers.  We couldn't do it without you!  We also want to thank 89.3 The Current for their sponsorship of our event.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Where should I park?
Parking is extremely limited.  This means you may have to park on the street and walk quite a ways.  Please be aware of any parking restrictions when you park on the street.  A few of our neighbors have graciously opened up their lots for the day.  Please only park in lots that are clearly marked with our signs.  Again, these lots will fill up very fast!

So if there is no parking, what should I do?
We are encouraging biking and there will be racks available (don’t forget your bike lock!).  We are also right off of W 7th, so Metro Transit makes stops not far from here.   A few area restaurants are also providing free shuttles (be sure to thank them by having a beer at their bar!).  And of course, there are always cabs.

Free Shuttle Info:
O'Gara's Bar & Grill on Snelling Ave
Shamrocks on 7th St
Tiffany's on Ford Pkwy
Bennett's on W 7th St

How do I get to the brewery?
We are located at 910 Montreal Circle, St. Paul, MN  55102.
Download map.

What are the set times of the bands?
All times are approximate:
12:00  Hotpants DJs (and between sets)
12:15  Charlie Parr & Friends
1:15    Night Moves
2:15    Lizzo featuring Lazerbeak
3:20    The New Standards
4:40    Haley Bonar and Band
6:00    Secret Stash Soul Revue

What are the bands like?
We’ll kick off the day with a Minnesota classic, Charlie Parr.  Charlie is gathering up some friends and bringing his American roots music to our backyard.  Lucky us!

Next we have Night Moves, some local boys making their mark around the country. From The New Yorker: “The four-piece plays countrified rock with a freak-folk vocal style, and their organ and string arrangements spin their songs into mini-epics.”

Up third is Lizzo featuring Lazerbeak of Doomtree.  You may know Lizzo from her work with The Chalice, the powerhouse all-female rap/R&B group. Deemed “Best Female Vocalist” by City Pages in 2013, Lizzo is out with a new solo album this Fall.

At fourth we have The New Standards featuring Chan Poling, John Munson, and Steve Roehm.  Sensing a lack of an interesting jazz trio repertoire beyond the usual “old standards”, they got together originally to play and sing their favorite songs – from every era, particularly post 1960’s pop music - in a stripped-down acoustic setting, making room for solos and arrangements with the freedom of jazz, and yet never fully abandoning the modest soul of pop and rock.

Haley Bonar, our fifth artist, also has a new album out this Fall. Her recent single “Bad Reputation” was described by NPR Music as "darkly sparkling, but it's dispensed with a poppy brightness that's virtually impossible to resist. Haley is a remarkable performer, with a terrific ear for detail and a gift for masking melancholy observations with hooks that stick."  She will be performing with her full band.

We dare you to stand still with our final act of the night-the Secret Stash Soul Revue featuring The Valdons, Sonny Knight, Jackie Harris, and Wanda Davis.  If you’re not familiar with this crew, these are some of the classic artists from the Twin Cities’ soul heydays of the 60s and 70s.  City Pages called a previous reunion show the “Best Twin Cities Concert of 2012”.

Finally, throughout the day we'll have our friends Hotpants DJs spinning vinyl between sets.

Check out videos of the band too!

What if I drink too much beer, what are my options?

We have partnered with Drink Drive Intelligently (DDI), a great service that picks you up and drives you home in your own car!  Reservations are preferred, plus you get $10 off if you book in advance.  Visit  www.youdrinkwedrive.org for more info or call 651.338.1425.  We will also have cabs available.  Note-if you do leave your car, be sure to remove it on Sunday ASAP.

Speaking of beer, what will you be serving?
We will have a variety of beer for your drinking pleasure.  Back by popular demand will be the cask beer area, this year in our brand new cellar.  We'll also have Kellerbier, unfiltered beer straight from the fermentation tanks, and served out of Fass kegs.  "Bier vom Fass!"
Casks will be tapped continuously throughout the day instead of at set times.  A lottery of beer goodness!

Is there a place to park my motorcycle, scooter, or Segway?
There will be a designated single occupancy motorized vehicle parking area near the brewery.  We'll have traffic control to direct you to the spot.

Can I bring kids, pets, or firearms?
Sorry, 21+ unarmed humans only.  Licensed service animals are permitted.  And by no kids, that includes cute babies.  We like them too, but they need to sit this one out.

Can I bring in a cooler or outside drink/food?
Nope. We will be selling food, beer, water, and pop. What more could you need?
Speaking of water/pop-the Jaycees will be selling these items as a fundraiser for their group, so know that your hydration is going to a good cause!

Can I bring a blanket or chair?
No chairs, but blankets are okay.

Is the event handicap accessible?
It is!  The party will take place behind the brewery, on a mix of grass and concrete.

What if it rains or –gulp— snows?

Dress appropriately?  The Backyard Bash will be held rain or shine; however, we reserve the right to cancel the event or part of the event due to severe weather.
This year we do away the big tent to have a swell open air bash.  So wear your sunscreen, rain slicker (no umbrellas please), or parka.  If dangerous conditions do arise, check back at this page for a status update.  Cheers to Minnesota weather!

Will I get to tour the brewery?
Unfortunately, due to the size of the event, we will not be conducting tours of the brewery.  Just another excuse to come back and visit us!  You will, however, be able to see our brand new cellar addition if you go into the cask beer area.

Are there VIP tickets or a VIP area?
Nope, all Summit fans are equal in our eyes!

What will there be to eat?
Absolute goodness.
World Street Kitchen-Food inspired by street carts from around the world.
Bennett's Chop and Railhouse-Our neighbors just down the street from the brewery.  Mmmmm, Little Charlie's.
Barrio-Tacos and beer, yes please!
Pizza Luce-Always a hit, so they are back with meat and veggie options!
Blue Plate-Kings of the neighborhood restaurants like Highland, Edina, and Longfellow Grills, and the Groveland Tap.
Black Forest Inn-Sausages and beer are such a natural fit!
4 Reasons Kettle Korn-Salty/sweet popcorn!

Will there be vegetarian food options?
Yes indeed!  Veggie pizzas, tacos, burritos and sides will be available.

Do I need to bring cash?
Yes!  All drink and food will be cash only.  We will have an ATM on site as well.

Can I leave and come back?
Yes, we will allow re-admission, but be sure to get stamped before you leave!

Will there be Summit merchandise available?
Yes, we will be selling a handful of choice items throughout the day.  Credit cards will be accepted for merchandise.

What if I have problems with buying tickets thru Tempo?
Call the nice folks over there, they'll help you out! 612.326.6343
